Science Teacher and Marathon Runner! I graduated top of my class from the University of Limerick (BSc with concurrent teacher education) in 2015 and having taught in the Irish and UK system I have a in depth appreciation for curriculum. I currently teach Biology and Chemistry at A-Level and GCSE science in London. I am passionate about science and thoroughly enjoy creating resources, please feel free to review my resources.

The development of the model of Benzene

(0)
This lesson looks at how scientific knowledge develops over time as more evidence becomes available. It is also a chance to review the shapes of atomic orbitals as it builds on knowledge of side-on overlap of the p-orbitals to form the delocalised pi ring of electrons. Students meet the arenes in year 12, but only in passing, so they will have little idea as to the molecular and structural formula of benzene.

A complete lesson as per the specificaiton for AQA combined science and GCSE chemistry. This lesson follows on from a lesson on ‘Using moles to balance equations’. Define limiting and excess reactants. To determine limiting reactants using mole calculations and ratios from balanced equations. To make predictions about the quantity of products that are produced.

MS Conservation of Mass Calculations

Simple activity that shows conservation of mass through calculations. The use of equations with state symbols challenges students to think of situations where mass ‘appears’ to increase or decrease. This resource is complete with mark scheme and additional slides to support teaching.
