This is a tracking document I have made for pupils working below age expectations. It allows you to track back to the correct year's objective in each of the domains so you can target interventions at the point of need. This is a great tool for making interventions really work.

These are pupil tracking sheets for Reading, Writing and Maths. There is a commentary section at the bottom where you can record pupils who need targeting and what interventions you plan to provide them. This allows you to target interventions across the school and monitor what has impact which allows you to make better than expected progress for the pupils in your school.

It also has a few versions of a paragraph that is colour coded to help pupils understand how to write their paragraphs. This display is best utilised by printing it out as A3 sized.

Here are some team work cards which explain each member's responsibilities. I use these every time I put pupils into groups so they can practise all of the roles. This really develops their confidence as many pupils do not get these opportunities unless you manage different team roles. The roles are as follows: Leader, Organiser, Motivator and Reporter. This is a something I get the pupils to complete before they write to focus their minds on why, what and for who they are writing. It also includes a larger version for display on a working wall. What tense is it written in; 1st person (I), 2nd person (you) or 3rd person (he/she/they). • What types of words or phrases are being used? • Technical, scientific, descriptive, informative, factual, emotive, serious or humorous. • What linguistic devices are being used? • Fact, opinion, rhetorical questions, hyperbole (exaggeration), irony, anecdote or puns. • How is the text presented? • Headlines, sub-headings, slogans, bullet points, diagrams, captions or in columns.

This is a resource I have made to support pupils with their writing and spelling. Exposing pupils to better words choices increases their vocabulary and ultimately the quality of their work.

Here are 6 versions of a storyboard to save yourself time creating your own. There are 2 with 8, 6 and 4 squares. One of the versions have larger areas for drawing with the other version more lines for writing. I have included it in a PowerPoint format so you can alter it if you want. This is a 3 and a ½ week unit of work where pupils create their own charity inspired leaflet. The book used to stimulate the thoughts of being unselfish and thinking of others is ‘The Selfish Giant’ by Oscar Wilde. This is a great story with a strong moral of sharing one’s wealth in order to find happiness. The end piece is a digitally created persuasive leaflet where pupils create logos, slogans and persuasive writing to produce an engaging charity inspired leaflet. This unit of work is targeted best at Year 4 - 6 pupils. I have included all the resources you need to start teaching this tomorrow. Activities can include reading excellent model texts, drama or researching more about the author or the content of the book. Capture, sift and sort = This is the part of the unit where pupils look at key features, practise skills they will need in order to complete the final piece or new learning for objectives they have not learnt yet. Create, refine, evaluate = This is where you bring all you have learnt together and plan the final piece before you write it and then edit it to improve the piece. This can include self, peer or teacher led reviewing.

This is a great game to play in pairs or with the whole class. It really helps pupils to use persuasive language while improving their speaking and listening skills. They also love it. For Pairs You need 2 dice. The first player throws a dice for the horizontal and the second player throws a dice for vertical. You then choose who is for and who is against each statement. I usually choose the first round then the second round is chosen by whoever lost the first round and so on. Each pupil has to come up with the most reasons to support their side of the statement. The person with the most wins then you throw the dice again. For Whole Class You need 2 dice. The first player throws a dice for the horizontal and the second player throws a dice for vertical. The whole class decides, by raising hands, which was the most persuasive. It helps to limit the amount of time to say 1 minute each.

This is an assessment sheet I have designed which has the whole of the primary curriculum for reading. At the beginning of each year you mark or highlight where they start in each domain and regularly update it throughout the year as the pupil makes progress. The next year a new teacher uses a different colour. The assessment sheet prints out best on a double sided A3 piece of paper.

This is a grammar test I made for my year 5 class. It has 14 questions where pupils can get a total of 20 marks. The questions ask pupils to answer to complete sentences, find adverbs, phrases with types of sentences, add prefixes, change tense, write in direct speech and much more. It is a great resource to assess how well your grammar sessions are going and adapt your planning accordingly. I have included a mark scheme as well as the test.
