This lesson has been devised for the purpose of giving the new Y6's on transition week a taste of the model and structure of history lessons. There is plenty emphasis on engagement and routine. AFL activities are incorporated into the lesson as are carousel activities, people bingo, sound clips and video links for engaging starters. Resources are included at the bottom of the powerpoint and a set of teacher instructions are also included at the top. Also the instructions & resources for creating your witch tabards are included. The lesson follows the 4 part lesson strategy and incorporates familiar icons used on all my lessons which I have embedded within all department lessons. Students engage in the lessons much more as they appear tidier, more fun and engaging.

This resource is designed as an introductory lesson to life in 1066 (prior to your hastings lessons) to help Y7 students understand the differences between medieval england and england today. There is a literacy focus to the lesson and a differentiated worksheet is attached. A must have if following my Y7 SOW.

This lesson is designed as an introductory lesson for Y7 students into the topic of William the Conqueror. This is the first of a sequence of lessons I have planned as is aimed at introducing historical/topic language to students.

Enclosed in the bundle is a Jack the Ripper mini scheme of work (4 lessons). Next year I am intending to enhance this and make it into 6 lessons (jacks letters & source skills). Exam technique practiced is for the new spec (9 - 1) GCSE, AQA Paper 1 style questions. Lessons include the following: Lesson 1 - Introduction/Keywords/Literacy focus Lesson 2: Victim profiles Lesson 3: Suspects & exam technique 12 mark Lesson 4: Why couldn’t JTR be caught & exam technique 8 mark All resources are produced to a high quality and attention to detail has been paid. Lessons follow the 4 part structure and follows the same consistency as my other lessons using familiar icons etc. Audio clips, video links etc are all embedded. This is designed and has been taught to both Y7 &8 and has been their favorite lessons all year!

This is the third lesson in my SOW for Y7 which introduces students to the 4 key areas of life in 1066 and (monarchy/religion/the people/law and order) and focuses on improving literacy skills (PEE paragraphs) in history using clear and engaging scaffolds. The lesson is ideal for paired/group work and was originally planned for a mixed ability group.

A well presented lesson on the 1066 Battle of Hastings in the run up to the penultimate lesson of the Battle of Hastings created for KS3 history students on Microsoft Powerpoint A little about the lesson Students explore the Battle of Hastings between two of the contenders Harold Godwinson and Duke William of Normandy. Students uncover the sequence of events during the battle, they encounter a codebreaker task and look at some of the imagery of the Bayeux tapestry. Students consider advantages and disadvantages of each army throughout the lesson. Students then apply their learning to a written exam technique task. Students are guided into answering an exam style question (AQA 8 mark question) with scaffolded sentence and a mark scheme for self assessment to help them begin to understand the requirements for GCSE style questions from an early stage. This can easily be tweaked, however, to tailor the resource to your exam board. Whats included? A whole 1 hour lesson powerpoint is included (there are teacher notes also under some slides). Student worksheets/resources are included in hidden slides in the relevant points of the presentation and also as an additional Powerpoint for ease of printing. Homework, Learning Objectives and outcomes have also been completed in this resource, however, they can easily be tweaked to suit the needs and ability of your classes. It is very likely this lesson will take beyond an hour to complete depending on the ability of the class and how long is spent on each task. This resource has been created for the new AQA Spec. Paper 1: Section A: Period Study: America, 1920-73. The lesson provides an overview of the course (amend to suit the topic choices you have made). Its a nice way to gauge prior knowledge, get students to get a feel for the USA as the majority of their studying at KS3 will have been within Europe. This covers the basics of the 2 leading US political parties. The role of the US government. Intro to 4 mark questions ( for the new spec) with peer assessment of a new style mark scheme. This lesson is designed to look at the aftermath of the Battle of Hastings and explore the reasons why William of Normandy won at the Battle of Hastings. Again lessons have been differentiated to suit mixed ability and differentiated resources are incorporated within the pack.

This lesson has been designed to cover the 3 main events of the Civil Rights Campaign in the 1950s. Brown vs Board of Education 1954 Montgomery Bus Boycott 1956 Little Rock 9 1957. The focus is mainly on whether each even could be considered a success or not towards the civil rights campaign. The exam technique focus for this lesson is on good conclusions to 12 mark questions. This is designed for AQA GCSE exam technique but can easily be adapted. All worksheets/info sheets included. An excellent resource for both new learning or revision.

This lesson looks at who Elizabeth I was and the ways in which she wanted herself to be viewed by her public. Students get to decode hidden messages in Elizabethan portraits. As always the lesson is presented in an excellent way and designed for maximum student engagement.

This lesson covers Elizabeth I’s religious settlement. 4 Mark exam technique has been incorporated into the lesson. The lesson has been written for KS3 however it would be useful for LAP GCSE students studying the Elizabethan module for their GCSE.

This lesson details the progression from Motte and Bailey Castles to Stone Keep Castles in Medieval Britain. The lesson contains a 4 mark describe question to reflect on prior learning. The content covers the structure and features of stone keep castle and then looks further (through means of a carousel activity) advantages and disadvantages of stone keep castles. This would lead well to insert a Paper 1 ‘Interpretations Q’ for the new Spec AQA paper.

This lesson covers part of the ‘Mid Tudor Crisis’. It explores the boy king Edward VI as a ruler of England and the problems he causes with regards to the succession. Lady Jane Grey - his choice of successor is included and offer students the opportunity to find out her fate also. Students are to assimilate an idea that Henry’s children’s religious beliefs are de-stabalizing England and will therefore cause problems for Elizabeth when she becomes monarch.
