Math Logic Puzzles and Brain teasers are a great way to start a lesson or use as a brain break. Have them on Interactive Whiteboard displayed as a classroom entry activity. Lateral thinking is a form of problem-solving that utilizes a more creative, less direct approach to the problem. Analytical, logical problem-solving encourages vertical thinking, which is an approach we’re often taught when dealing with math equations. Suggested ideas for use in the classroom Give the students 5 minutes to solve the riddle or puzzles before revealing the answers. Great discussion starters as many of these may have more than one answer or explanation. These can also be used for fast finishers as problem solving tasks. Students really enjoy the Optical illusions which are included in this pack. Included is 1 PDF which can be easily saved on any storage device. A great addition to any Relief or Substitute teacher’s bag of tricks. Suitable for middle primary to lower secondary students. (Answers included where necessary.) Can you work out the answer to this one? "All of Jenny’s pets are dogs except one. All of her pets are cats except one. How many cats and dogs does Jenny have? (HINT: Jenny has less than 5 dogs) (Answer is at the bottom of the page)

Student Reflection journal. Develop a positive mindset

(0)
Are you looking for a resource that will help your students to develop goal setting and growth mindset through reflection and self monitoring? This resource is designed to be used over the course of a year, so that there is a record of self evaluation taken by students throughout the year.  Self reflection and monitoring are skills that we all need for life. This resource will engage your students throughout the school year, and at the end they have a record of achievements and changes that they have made as they have grown. Developing a positive mindset amongst your students is such an important and integral part of the hidden curriculum, but basic to all of our daily lives. It is not a skill that comes easily and one that needs to be explicitly taught and fostered to enable your students to build a positive mindset. This can be added to your students portfolio as a record of achievements and for reflection. Photocopy extra pages as needed, and I hope that this resource serves you well throughout the year. Suitable for students in middle to upper primary grades. This is an instant download pdf file for you to print and use with your students. Teaching suggestions are included. The best part? This resource requires NO PREP and is easy to use. You can choose to print these pages for students to use a printable journal or booklet. What people are saying about this resource Very satisfied “I have been using these for the new semester to help my students prepare for student led parent conferences. My students struggled with them at first but now they look forward to using them and meeting with me to complete them.” Very satisfied “They are great forms and work better in person than for distance learning. Students are learning to look at what they are doing and how they can work to improve instead of waiting for someone else to tell them.” Very satisfied "Great product to use with my students while we are working hybrid and in virtual settings. Don't say the word -GAME for Expressive language, word choice and vocabulary.

Teaching Suggestions •Show your students images of different objects. •Next to each word is a list of three ‘banned’ words •Children must describe the object without using any of the given words. •There is a 2-minute timer on each page to add some excitement to the activity. •NO HAND GESTURES OR MIMING ALLOWED •This can be played in teams, or with single players. •Ideal for use with second language learners, to encourage using a wider vocabulary and to speak clearly and succinctly to the group. •This makes for a perfect lesson filler, introductory ice breaker or as a brain break in your classes. •You have been provided with a PDF and PowerPoint version of the game so that it can be printed off onto cards and used for individual students to look at yet hide from their peers. •The PowerPoint version can be used on a variety of devices or on the IWB. ( the rest of the class need to turn away from the board while the image of the object is shown). Students can then click on the timer which is the prompt for the rest of the class to turn around and begin guessing what the object may be from the clues given by the student chosen to be the ‘describer’. This is for use by one teacher in one classroom. If you would like to share with your colleagues, PLEASE purchase a multiple license. Thank you :)
Social Narrative-YOU ONLY NEED TO ASK A QUESTION ONCE-A Social Story

Social Narrative-YOU ONLY NEED TO ASK A QUESTION ONCE-A Social Story

(0)
A Social Narrative is an effective way to teach children how to navigate a new situation, such as starting school or preschool. Social Narratives can help children understand what to expect at school or preschool and they can be used to support orientation, which is particularly useful when children and families are not able to be on-site.  Teaching children how to ask a question only once is a common social skill that needs to be frequently addressed. As educators we always will say things like, “wait’ or “You asked that just a moment ago.”, however we need to explicitly teach these skills. This story can be used to help children to develop skills so that they can learn to function and integrate with other children in the classroom and other social settings.

Farm Math Problems for Middle Primary students-Powerpoint game and worksheets

(0)
This is a powerpoint game which will help your students to develop their mathematical thinking skills with some fun problems from the farm. To get the maximum benefit from this resource, it is best to use the support worksheets provided (or their workbooks to show proof of working out). This can be used on the IWB or it can be used on GOOGLE SLIDES . This makes it an ideal resource for Distance Learning (PLEASE NOTE: the sounds will not appear in the online presentation and the fonts may appear to be different) This presentation will only work when it is in PRESENTATION MODE. It is essential that none of the slide order is changed because the slideshow is set up to link to each individual slide, depending on the students’ responses. This presentation has 1 questions- making it ideal to use as a bell ringer, or warm up activity for your math rotations. It can also be used as a stand-alone activity to focus on the area of working mathematically. Encourage your students to show their working out using some of the following strategies 1.Writing down all the information that is found in the number problem 2.Determining what ‘units’ need to be included in the answer eg there were 25 eggs 3.Draw their ideas on paper 4.Use concrete materials 5.Work with a partner to think-pair-share their thoughts 6.Discourage your students from clicking on any of the star responses until they have done the working.
