Start the fun on Earth Day/ Week by having your pupils make a pledge. This Earth Day activity allows your pupils to take ownership of their targets for the week and become responsible global citizens. This colorful and exciting pledge can be used as a place mat or displayed on the wall during Earth Week. Two variants include Earth Day and Earth Week for whichever event you are celebrating this year.

What do you want to achieve from Earth Day? When starting a new area of learning or project I find that it is a great idea to have the class set themselves personal and individual targets. This file contains two sheets. The first contains the sub-headings for the days of the week, the second is blank for the student to add their own entries.

Looking for some green-fingered activities for Earth Day? This download contains six easy to run gardening activities. Ideal for an Earth Day or Earth Week activity. Let your pupils get green fingers and become young gardeners during your Earth Day celebrations. Mini themes can include: learning about the growth of seeds, the role insects play in our environment and farming, and how household materials can be re-used in the garden. My young gardener's club, who were 5-6 years old, loved these activities. Older students will also appreciate the opportunity to get their hands dirty and seek out bugs on the school grounds.

This slideshow presentation details the life of famous British explorer Percy Fawcett. This can be used when teaching historical figures, explorers, rainforests and how real figures become the inspiration for fictional characters. I created this presentation for Book Week, Earth Day and Environment Week and taught about the adventurer Percy Fawcett in the Amazon jungle after reading the book The Great Kapook Tree. Spellings strategies - VAK

This information sheet (supplied as both pdf and Word in this download) suggests many ways in which a students can learn to spell words. Ideal for the students who struggle to learn words for their weekly spelling tests - can also be used to help learn spellings and material in other languages. Not every brain is the same, so not all students can learn through seeing and repeating. This information sheet lists contrasting methods that target the VAK - visual, audio and anesthetic (movement). This could be displayed as a poster in a bedroom, at a work desk or in a classroom. Could be used as part of spelling or handwriting lessons. Excellent for introducing when studying the Brainwaves unit of work. If you're trying to learn something then give some of these methods a try and you'll find the results speak for themselves.

Peer review guidance poster

Peer review is an excellent end of lesson plenary activity for writing lessons. In my class I have these posters doubled-sided-printed and laminated and readily available around the room as well as featuring on my English display board. The first two students to have adequately finished their work then peer review each others' by offering a compliment, suggestion and correction. Having completed the activity a couple of times the students really understand what makes constructive feedback (the guidance also helps with this). A great writing plenary.
