This lesson continues with the theme of ‘who held the power in Nazi Germany?’ It considers the role of the Nazi Police State. It discusses the historiography of the Gestapo and where the interpretations originate, and the power of the SS, including the role of Himmler and the different divisions within the SS. All activities are built into the power point, and the lesson concludes with requiring the students to answer a comparative examination-style question. Including the videos and activities, this lesson will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to deliver.

This lesson continues the theme of ‘who held the power in Nazi Germany?’ It focuses on the role of the German army and Hitler’s dependence on its support; the conflict with traditional conservatives; and the plan to kill Hitler (the Kreisau Circle). All activities are built into the power point. Students are expected to reach a conclusion on the significance of the army, and how far Hitler could depend on its support. The lesson, including activities, would take about 1 hour and 30 minutes to deliver.
