About Emmanuel College
Emmanuel is described by many as a special place to work.
We have a reputation for academic excellence, yet we place a far higher premium upon character development.
The results our students achieve place Emmanuel firmly amongst a small handful of the best comprehensive schools in the nation, yet our student intake is carefully tailored to be representative of inner city Gateshead and Newcastle (two-thirds of our students come from "disadvantaged and highly disadvantaged" areas, and the average IQ is 100 with as many low attaining as high attaining students).
Our staff are dedicated professionals, yet most would describe what they do in terms of vocation rather than career.
We have a distinctive Christian ethos, yet we apply no faith test on intake, and students from ethnic minority backgrounds are over-represented, their parents choosing Emmanuel for its orderly, calm, safe environment and emphasis upon respect for authority.
If you have a passion to make a difference in the lives of the young people, and demand personal best from yourself as well as others, we would like to hear from you.
We invite you to browse our website, where there is a short DVD that will let you see what students and staff say about us. If you choose to apply for this vacancy and are short listed we will be delighted to invite you to spend a day at Emmanuel and get to know us better, in which case I shall look forward to meeting you!
A little more detail
Emmanuel College is a City Technology College for 1300 boys and girls aged between 11 and 19 and enjoys a biblical Christian foundation. Opened in 1990, the College has proved most popular with parents and students across the wide catchment area because of its ethos and firm discipline. The College also places great emphasis upon technological literacy and the importance of mathematics, science and technology. Emmanuel has specialist status both in technology and business/enterprise.
The College is fully committed to academic excellence for every single student within what is a fully mixed ability intake. GCSE results place us amongst the very best non-selective, co-educational, comprehensive schools in the country, with the 2015 percentage of students gaining five or more A*-C grades being 85% including English and maths; indeed 50% of students achieved the English Baccalaureate. At A Level Emmanuel has also been ranked amongst the top comprehensive schools in the land, with 74% of all grades being at grade A* to B, and a 100% pass rate. Student destinations are aspirational; for example, seven students went to Oxford or Cambridge University from Emmanuel this academic year.
In the twenty-five year history of Emmanuel College we have received five full Ofsted inspections and two additional Ofsted survey visits. Each time College has been graded ‘Outstanding’. The full text of the most recent inspection reports can be found on our website and that of Ofsted.
The Emmanuel Schools Foundation seeks to contribute to economic regeneration, prosperity in the North-East, and quality of community life through its work with young people. To be able to support our sister schools, whose situations are particularly challenging, is one of our privileges as a school. In April 2014 the College was designated as a National Teaching School in recognition of its outstanding performance and its track record of raising standards through supporting other schools.
