About Lister Community School
Lister Community School is situated in Plaistow, East London, approximately 10 mins walk from Plaistow and Upton Park Underground stations. We are also in close proximity to the new Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Westfield (Stratford) shopping centre. Please note we have no parking available onsite.
We are a specialist school in Music and Science. We are a mixed comprehensive secondary school and welcome both students and staff from a diverse multicultural background. With over 1,500 students, we are a larger than average school in the London Borough of Newham. The school benefits from being located in new and purpose built accommodation on a single site with ample outdoor areas and the use of an all-weather sports pitch.
The Headteacher, Mr Anthony Wilson, leads a team of senior leaders who are enthusiastic and experienced and, alongside all staff, share a positive and united vision for the school’s future. With an improved curriculum, vertical tutoring and house systems, Lister provides a well rounded and balanced experience for students.
School Specialism and Partnerships: Lister is a Music and Science specialist school.
Newham School for Deaf Students: Lister is the Resourced Provision for secondary aged Deaf and Partially Hearing Students in Newham. For the vast majority of their lessons, deaf students are taught alongside their hearing peers in mainstream classes. The Deaf Support Department is made up of a large team of Communication Support Workers and Teachers of the Deaf who work with students in mainstream classes and some limited pre/post tutor sessions.
Newham Community Schools Trust: Lister is part of the NCST, alongside Rokeby School, Sarah Bonnell School and Eastlea school. It is a partnership that reflects a steadfast commitment to:
- Maintain each of the Schools’ comprehensive values, inclusive practices and non-selective admissions policies;
- Ensure that the governance of the trust will continue to reflect the schools’ close links with the local community
- Recognise and value the contribution of staff to the success of the Trust
