About Netherwood Academy
Located in the town of Wombwell, South Yorkshire, Netherwood Advanced Learning Centre is a modern secondary school for pupils aged 11-16. With around 1200 pupils in a co-educational setting, Netherwood is larger than the average school of its type, and has an economically diverse student intake. Although most teaching takes place on-site, the school does make some use of off-site provision for students with particular needs. Netherwood only opened in 2012, as a new-build school following the closure of two local secondary schools, and as a result can boast of an extensive range of facilities such as a fully-equipped gym, and a floodlit sports pitch.

Values and Vision
Netherwood Advanced Learning Centre strives to promote a strong sense of community and pride among its pupils. With a large and diverse student body, the school ensures that pupils are clear about their rights and responsibilities, and have respect for both themselves and their classmates. To this end, a range of extra-curricular activities are offered in order to give students a chance to mix outside the classroom, through things such as competitive sports.
“The rate of progress of all groups of students is increasing rapidly in Years 7 to 9. Students’ behaviour around the school is usually calm and polite. Students who spoke with inspectors say that they feel safe in school. The Principal, senior leaders and the governing body have a highly accurate view of the school’s strengths and weaknesses.”
