About St Thomas a Becket Catholic Secondary School
The mission of St Thomas à Becket Catholic Secondary School is to develop the potential of every individual by providing the best education through experience of a Catholic, Christian community within which all members may grow in faith and make an active contribution to the Common Good of our society.
The vision we have for 11-16 Catholic education offers young people the chance to be fully alive and fully human to the possibilities on offer of living a fulfilled life through realising and recognising the Glory of God through Jesus Christ. It is to offer a truly radical alternative to materialistic society.
The school is situated in its own pleasant grounds on the south side of Wakefield and within easy reach of the city centre. Our pupils come, not only from Wakefield and its neighbouring villages, but also from the outskirts of Barnsley, Bradford, Huddersfield and Leeds. There are currently 750 pupils on roll and the college is always heavily oversubscribed. The very high reputation of the college has been confirmed in first class OFSTED reports which consistently highlight the powerful influence of the College’s Christian ethos, high academic standards and the excellent behaviour of the pupils. In G.C.S.E. examinations our pupils always achieve above the national average.
The Professional Learning of all staff is one of our top priorities with a leadership and management style which is open and consultation with all interested groups takes place. We have a strong tradition of personal pupil mentoring and a wide range of extra curricular activities.
Our students are the real story of Beckets and, of course, the best advertisement but the best way to find out what we’re really like is to visit us.
