About The Willink School
The Willink School opened in 1957. Situated in a pleasant rural area near the Berkshire/Hampshire border, it is a medium sized comprehensive school for students between the ages of 11-18.
In 1996 the school became the first in Berkshire to be awarded Language College status. The school offers the full range of national curriculum subjects and a wide choice of courses at Sixth Form level within the context of a developing international ethos.
The school has strong links with all of its local primary schools through "Network Willink". While the majority of incoming students are from these schools, however increasing numbers are joining the school from beyond its traditional catchment area.
The Willink School is a secondary, co-educational community day school – which is designated as a Specialist Language College, we have approximately 900 pupils on roll and 80 teaching and 25 support staff. The prospectus includes information about many aspects of school life.
The school expects and achieves high standards. We have improved on our excellent exam standards this year. We want all pupils to pass their exams. We also have a good pastoral and support system and organise many extra activities, clubs and outings for our pupils. Our new building has greatly improved our environment for learning and our facilities for drama and 6th form are now fantastic.
The school has excellent facilities catering for a wide range of subjects. These include a state of the art Drama studio, seven Science laboratories, Art and Pottery studios, a Music wing & recording studio, three workshops, a recently refurbished room for Food Technology, and a Business Education building with two Information Technology rooms, as well as standard classrooms and three other ICT rooms which are linked to Modern Foreign Languages, Maths, Technology, Art and Geography. There are wireless laptop suites available to the History, RE, English, Science and ICT departments. We are fortunate to have a county library on site next to the School Library and Resources Area. From September 1999 we were re designated as a Language College - the first in Berkshire.
We keep class sizes as small as possible. The average class size for years 7 - 11 is 28. The Sixth Form has very few groups over 18. We are able to give individual attention to all our pupils.
The Willink Leisure Centre, a joint school-community project, was extended in 1997 and offers additional sports facilities to the school during the day, including an indoor swimming pool which is available for both school and community use.
