The School Context
We are extremely proud of our excellent academic record and (as a selective school) are committed to achieving the highest standards. However, we measure our success on more than just examination results as academic attainment in isolation is not enough to give our students the tools they need to succeed in the world.
We strive to equip our students to take a full and constructive role in society, to help them to be adaptive, to exercise critical judgement and to be prepared for the rapidly changing requirements of the 21st century. The core values of Respect, Excellence and Determination are so well embedded in the school’s behaviours that the students refer to them affectionately by the acronym : RED. Clearly this is a code they are very happy to live by.
Living and working in Tunbridge Wells
Tunbridge Wells and its immediate environment present an ideal location in which to live and work. The elegance of the Pantiles with its variety of excellent shops and restaurants, the beauty of the surrounding countryside, especially The High Weald, and the wide range of cultural and sporting facilities ensure that there is much to encourage even the most dedicated professional to enjoy some relaxation. The surrounding villages provide excellent residential property within a commutable distance. Tunbridge Wells is within an hour’s reach of London and is well served by Gatwick Airport, Ebbsfleet and Ashford for Eurostar connections.
The School benefits from it's proximity to Tunbridge Wells Sports Centre. Staff receive a discounted membership. Facilities include swimming pool, diving pool, all the latest gym & fitness equipment, an extensive programme of group exercise classes, indoor cycling studio, kids soft play, café and high-spec changing rooms.
Childcare: The Sports Centre also has a nursery which is popular with staff at TWGSB who have pre-school children.
Our school motto ‘Faber Est Quisque Suae Fortunae’ (every man is the architect of their own fortune) should continue to be central to the running of the school and the students. It is also important to us as students, that we are treated as more than statistics. We want to do well in our exams and we appreciate how important they are but we like that our school isn’t just exam focused; we think our personal development into young men and women is paramount. We aren’t all the same and we like that our differences are acknowledged.- The Student Body
