About Waldegrave School
Waldegrave is a comprehensive school for girls aged 11 to 16 years plus mixed sixth form in Twickenham, London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
The school is set in spacious and attractive grounds; we have our own playing fields within the 14.5-acre site. The school has received significant investment over the past in a new sixth form block, dining room and sports hall, and a refurbished performing arts centre. There are well-equipped specialist facilities and good staff room facilities. There are twelve science labs and seven ICT suites.
We have 133 staff made up of 100 teachers, 15 technicians and curriculum support staff, 15 administrative staff and 3 premises staff. There is a strong commitment to training and professional development, as well as the work/life balance of all staff and as a result retention of staff at Waldegrave is high.
Our examination results are excellent and reflect the work of committed staff and students. We were awarded comprehensive school of the year in 2016 by the Sunday Times which recognised our excellent GCSE and A’Level results. For the previous 6 years we have been the top 11-16 school in the country in the Sunday Times Parent power tables.
We have students of all abilities, who come from a wide range of religious, cultural, social and ethnic backgrounds and we celebrate the progress of every student.
We set high standards of behaviour and have high expectations of all our students. We are proud of the partnership we have with parents to ensure all students reach their full potential and enjoy school. OfSTED reported in 2007 that this is an outstanding school.
“Standards are high and almost all students do extremely well academically and in their personal development. There are many reasons for this. High on the list are the attitudes of students. They want to do well and they use the resources in the school very effectively. Students' personal development is excellent.”
The inspection team looked at all aspects of the school including: standards of achievement, teaching and learning, the personal development and well-being of students, and leadership and management. All were graded outstanding which put the school in the top 5% of schools in the country.
Waldegrave School, however, has much more to offer than examination results. We firmly believe that the most successful students are those who really throw themselves into the life of the school. The opportunities here are many and varied and all students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and make the most of leadership opportunities they are given both in and out of lessons.
'Everyone enjoys learning, feels valued and experiences success'.

Our School Rule
Learning comes first: we show mutual respect and understanding for everyone, through courteous and considerate behaviour at all times.
“I am grateful to be part of the school and am confident it will help me succeed. My teachers are willing to help me outside of lessons/school day hours. I feel comfortable talking to my form tutor as she's very friendly and kind and I am very happy in school”- STUDENT AT WALDEGRAVE SCHOOL
“I really enjoy school. Since coming to the sixth form I have really appreciated the level of respect, and we are treated more like young adults which is fitting with our new responsibilities”- STUDENT AT WALDEGRAVE SCHOOL
“I think this school has helped me so much and has given me so much confidence and I am glad I picked this school to go to”- STUDENT AT WALDEGRAVE SCHOOL
I love coming to work at Waldegrave every day because I know that I’ll find myself amongst fun, supportive and knowledgeable colleagues. I’ll be very worried if I no longer heard the sound of laughter coming from the Science staffroom. A real point of difference at Waldegrave however is that the students are enthusiastic and receptive learners. An empowering leadership and longer lesson length allows freedom to plan creatively. At Waldegrave, I can be the teacher I wanted to be when I first joined the profession.- VICKI JACKSON – LEAD TEACHER BIOLOGY
Waldegrave truly is a school that allows Teachers to do their job, encourages them to develop and affords them the opportunity to work with some of the most dynamic and motivated young people I’ve encountered. I did the Teach First programme and then came to Waldegrave where I was lucky enough to take up the mantle of Head of Year in my second year. I’ve truly loved working here – it’s a wonderful unique community.- HARRY CHAPMAN – MATHS and HEAD OF YEAR 8
