About Westminster City School
Westminster City School is a state-funded comprehensive school for boys, with a mixed sixth form, in the heart of London. Our fantastic location, just minutes from Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey, ensures good transport links and an easy commute for both staff and pupils.
With a long history of educating young people in the very centre of London, Westminster City School has a proudly comprehensive intake and a strong Christian ethos, welcoming those of all faiths and of none. Our diverse pupil body reflects the modern city around us and our community is enriched by having 14 out of 17 ethnic groups being represented.
UK Government figures show our GCSE results to be above national averages, and significantly above national averages for state-funded boys' schools.
Our 2020 A Level results saw almost 10% of our year group receive an A* and 31% awarded A* or A. All of our Year 13 applied to start university in autumn 2020, with three students joining Cambridge or Oxford and a third of our cohort heading to prestigious Russell Group universities.
At Westminster City School, the caring transformation of our young people into the responsible global citizens of tomorrow is at the heart of all our standards. We offer exceptional learning opportunities and strong pastoral support to ensure our young people reach their potential. Alongside this, we provide an outstanding range of extra-curricular activities and events, plus guidance on future studies and careers, that equip our young people with the life skills needed to flourish.
“Our sixth formers are highly invested in their learning. All come from a diverse range of educational and cultural backgrounds, and all are highly engaged in the world around them and social change within their city. What they all share, in abundance, is academic intellectual curiosity - they are a pleasure to teach!”- Ms James, Sixth Form teacher
“I only recently joined Westminster City School but I have immediately felt at home, thanks to the welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Other staff have been extremely accommodating, while pupils are courteous, polite and respectful.”- Ms Haughton, Office Manager and Admissions Officer
“Our popular KS3 Science Club meets weekly and recent experiments have included making sparklers for Bonfire Night, undertaking flame tests on sugar cubes, and dropping homemade parachutes, containing eggs, off one School building. Engagement and enthusiasm amongst our pupils is high. Running this after-school activity allows me to get pupils to undertake fun, practical experiments that excite them about science outside of the classroom.”- Ms O’Rouke, Science Lead Practitioner
“I’ve been working at Westminster City School since 2007. It is our amazing pupils that have really kept me at our School – they are funny, enthusiastic and bring joy. Every day, at work, they make me smile!”- Mr Asante, Pupil Support Officer (Years 9-11) and PE teacher
The school’s Christian ethos and its promotion of cultural diversity permeate all aspects of the school community. Student behaviour is good in and out of lessons and they feel safe.- Ofsted
