Written for the proof content common to A-level Mathematics specifications from AQA (7357), Pearson Edexcel (9MA0) and OCR (H240): proof by deduction, proof by exhaustion, disproof by counter-example and proof by contradiction, including the irrationality of √2 and the infinity of primes. Proof by contradiction is A-level only: it is not in AS Mathematics (AQA 7356, Edexcel 8MA0, OCR H230), so it is usually taught in Year 2. All three boards define ℕ as {1, 2, 3, …}; this pack writes “positive integer” wherever it matters. Section 9 uses content from other topics (double angle formulae, sec, cosec and cot, series, differentiation from first principles): check your specification for where each sits in your course.
