These real-life stories provide an engaging starting point for exploring Black British history, migration, cultural identity, diversity and belonging. Students can use them to develop creative writing, personal narratives and short drama monologues, while reflecting on their own experiences of home and identity.
The stories come from The Ones We Left Behind, a Heritage Lottery-funded oral history project produced by Lorna Holder, exploring family separation, migration and relocation through real personal experiences.
