Looking for a fun way to practise adding and subtracting money, that’s great for St. Patrick’s Day? With this hands-on craft, children add or subtract the amounts of money on each coin, then glue them onto a pot to make a pot of gold.

These would look great on a display, so I’ve included a display phrase if you’d like to use one.

There are lots of options to cater to your needs:

  • make amounts to $1, $5, and $10 (U.S)/£1, £5, and £10 (U.K)
  • adding money
  • subtracting money
  • adding and subtracting money
  • adding/subtracting easy amounts that can be done mentally (amounts with fives, tens, twenty-fives, fifties, and seventy-five-cents/pence)
  • adding/subtracting in vertical form (single-digits)
  • adding/subtracting in vertical form (double-digits)
  • a pot with and without “My Money Skills Sham-Rock!”
  • glue onto paper or glue coins onto an outline template
  • editable version so you can choose the money problems

Also included:

  • U.S($) and U.K(£) versions - if you need another currency you can use the editable version
  • visual instructions
  • display board phrase “We Sham-Rock at Money Skills!”

I hope your children enjoy making their pots of gold!
