This game encourages the use of arrays to develop a student’s conceptual understanding of multiplication and in particular the recognition of commutative facts, for example why 3 x 4 = 4 x 3. Playing the game also provides a fun way to practice times tables facts up to 6 x 6.

The game can be extended to encourage links between multiplication and division, students could asked to identify multiplication and division facts associated with an array before being able to cross off a square.

The game is suitable for year 2/3 or for intervention work for those students whom struggle to secure number facts.
