BLM Activity
Teacher Guide:
This is an introductory lesson that I recently created as part of our celebrations of BLM / Black History Month which has been well received and enjoyed by students.
I start lessons with students creating trinket accounts (free) and share the link to the start point. This would work well for Math department too.
We discuss cartesian coordinates and often try to give instructions to someone blindfolded to draw the shape from others instructions which often yields great/interesting/funny results
I have included links to the tutorial video for the activity, as well as links to the student starting point online (which can be completed in any browser with no downloads required) as well as the same for the complete teacher example. Students can do this in their web browser without an account (however, I would recommend creating one for free and be able to save their work) For students who have IDLE or other python IDE installed, they can open the .py file and work on it as they would any other program (they may need to install the python turtle library, which using a browser means they do not have to do)
This activity is aimed to be completed in one/two lessons depending on length of lessons. With a 55 minute lesson, an introduction and explanation, with feedback and students researching and adding their own ideas, this lasted between two and three lessons depending on the coding experience and enthusiasm of my classes.
