An important exercise that students might feel is time out from serious math study, and which will certainly appeal to the artistic. This PowerPoint explains the compass set construction of two patterns (Flowers and Honey, as shown on the picture). I always stress the use of the equilateral triangle, since this is useful background for polygon angle sum.
A third pattern of ‘six pointed stars’, is set as a challenge for which students should plan their own construction. An extra design mission is included on the last slide for enthusiastic students.
Three information sheets are included as word documents, so that you can print a small number for students, hence saving frequent change of slides
