This resource has been designed for students working towards Entry Level 1 Functional Skills English certification (Edexcel-Pearson, NCFE, City and Guilds, NOCN and Open Awards). It contains age-appropriate, materials and resources to deliver the reading, writing, spelling and speaking and listening components of English Functional Skills. The bundle contains twelve workbooks and eight PowerPoint lessons.
The workbooks include explanation/information pages, worksheets (with answers), progress checks and certificates of achievement. They are provided in PDF format and editable PowerPoint versions to enable personalisation of the resource. They can be used for classwork, homework, revision or as an independent learning pack.
The editable PowerPoint lessons are ideal for introducing the various components of the Entry Level 1 Functional Skills specification and for revision purposes.

I bought these clear, well-structured resources for use in my Nurture classroom in a mainstream secondary school. Each booklet clearly aligns with the Functional Skills objectives and allows for independent work. The tasks in the booklets are chunked and scaffolded with visuals, which has been particularly helpful in reducing cognitive overload for my SEN and EAL students. I have also found these booklets to be very versatile: I have used them during whole-class teaching, where they have enabled multiple pupils to work at different levels; as a homework task; and for sending home during periods of absence. I would definitely recommend these booklets.

I have recently started using these resources with my post-16 students on a Life Skills-focused course. The workbooks provide clear, practical activities that support the development of everyday English, while the accompanying PowerPoints offer a useful structure to guide lessons and maintain student engagement. The materials are well designed for learners working at lower levels, helping them build confidence in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. I've begun using this resource with my higher-level Pre-Entry-Level ESOL students as they work towards their ESOL Skills for Life certification. The feedback from my students has been incredibly positive. The materials are clear and easy to understand, providing excellent preparation for their certification. This is particularly beneficial as the exam maps quite well over to the Functional Skills exam, especially at the lower levels. With ten workbooks and seven PowerPoint lessons covering all components, it's proven to be a valuable tool for both classwork and independent learning.
