Heart and Lungs

Complete No-Prep lesson with exam style questions, tasks and answers on the Heart and Lungs for AQA GCSE (9-1) Science / Biology.

This lesson covers the parts of AQA GCSE Biology / Combined Science Biology 4.2.2.2 relating to the heart and lungs (the remaining parts of 4.2.2.2 which relate to blood vessels and rate calculations for blood flow are in the next lesson).

Information about the resource:

• I take a slightly different approach to teaching about the heart, beginning with a simplified “box” version before progressing in stages to the traditional and anatomically correct heart diagram. This has worked really well for my classes for many years and the same idea is now appearing in exam papers.
• Much of the learning that relates to the lungs, in particular their adaptations as an exchange surface, have been covered in previous lessons (such as the lesson on exchange surfaces), but the exam spec also asks for it to be taught here. It is better to err on the side of caution, so I have included it, however you may find that your class can cover the lungs section quite quickly as a recap. This could be a good thing as the parts on the heart are likely to take a full lesson.
