The model text describes the desert environment at Camp Green Lake from the first person point of view. The description comes with a feature find task, which asks pupils to search for the following writing features including figurative language and other literary devices:

• alliteration
• show not tell feelings
• rhetorical questions
• expanded noun phrases
• rule of three
The description can be used as a WAGOLL before pupils plan and write their own description based on Holes.
