This topic - Tropical Rainforests, is for year 10, on the module "The Living World". The main Learning objectives are: Students to know what a tropical rainforest is; To understand where the earths rainforests are located; To be able to consider the key characteristics of a tropical rainforest.

Starter: Students attempt to write their own definition of what a tropical rainforest is before having teacher led discussion about definition and rainforest characteristics.

Main: There is a class discussion that involves students describing where tropical rainforests are located, followed by a YouTube clip.
Students then complete the following tasks on a blank map.
On your map shade in the areas where rainforest are located – use the atlas to help you.
Draw on the equator and tropics lines.
Label the names of countries where the rainforests are located.
Under your map write a paragraph that explains what a tropical rainforest is and describes where they are located.
