This lesson covers:
•Challenge hook where students will practice isomerism before introducing the concept
•Content covered on what isomerism is and the 2 main types (Structural and Stereoisomerism). This is then followed by going in depth on each type of isomerism and learning about chain, position, functional group, cis/trans and E/Z isomerism including how to identify which is an E and which is a Z isomer. Followed by a task on identifying the type of isomerism, drawing isomers and practice on drawing and identifying E/Z isomers
•Content covered on why only hydrocarbons with double bonds can exhibit stereoisomerism with a recap on orbitals, sigma and pi bonds followed by a review gap fill task to summarise the learning.
•Student lead data analysis on the trend in boiling point with branching and increasing chain length of hydrocarbons which requires students to use previous learned knowledge of intermolecular forces
