Iterations

The resource consists of a lesson presentation and a worksheet. The lesson presentation includes a starter and worked solutions to the questions on the worksheet.

The starter involves proving that a root lies between two values of x. There is an exercise for students to gain more practice at this. This process is repeated for rearranging formulae and then for finding iterative formulae. Finally the iterative process is explained and students are shown how to use a calculator to find successive estimates. Students finish by answering questions on a worksheet. Extension involves two iterations that don’t work and identifying the re-arranged equations that are equivalent to the equation to solve.
