Light plan, should last approx. 6 weeks, covering all objectives on the NC as well as a range of working scientifically objectives The plan is fully differentiated for each lesson. Originally planned for Year 6 however could be adapted for other year groups. Also included are all relevant resources.

Week 1 - Concept cartoon assessment- prior knowledge

Week 2 - To recognise that light appears to travel in straight lines. To use the idea that light travels in striaght lines to explain that objects are seen because they give out or reflect light into the eye.

Week 3 - Making periscopes activity. To use the idea that light travels in striaght lines to explain that objects are seen because they give out or reflect light into the eye. To explain that we see things because light travels from light sources to our eyes or from light sources to objects and then to our eyes.

Week 4/5 - Shadows investigation lesson. To use the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain why shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them.

Week 6 -Splitting light and colour wheel activity. To recognise that light appears to travel in straight lines

Week 7 - Repetition of concept cartoon for assessment purposes
