This is a scheme of work for the play “Orpheus” by Ted Hughes, you’ll need copies of the play for this scheme. It’s a really nicely written version of the Orpheus and Eurydice story for young people. You’ll need to change the page numbers in the PPT depending on what version you buy, I typed it up on to paper.
It’s a good scheme for Y7/8/9 introducing them to studying a play, exploring characters, empathy, status and tension, some design ideas, the context of Greek theatre and also physical theatre.
There is an assessment at the end and I have suggested scenes that could be used for assessment - you’ll need to edit the PPT for the assessment criteria your school uses.
There is one homework task which uses AQA exam style questions to develop knowledge of how to answer these. The context marketplace activity could also be set as a homework research task instead.
Hope it is useful :)
