Non fiction letter writing year 1/2

(0)
A lesson on letter writing which based upon our Peter Pan topic. This pack contains a powerpoint presentation and activities. I first read the letter from Tinkerbell to Peter to the children to see what they noticed about the way that the letter was set out, we then looked at a range of other letters and the children used sugar paper to mind map their thoughts. The powerpoint then highlights the different features of a letter and where they can be found. Afterwards the children were given another letter from Wendy to her parents and the children were to identify the features we had been looking at. I have included labels for the LA children to place in the correct place on the letter.

The pack comes with differentiated question cards which can be cut out or printed on stickers to put into books or used on the table for the children to make using cubes. The red snakes are for LA, green for MA and blue for HA. The lesson plan also comes with a 'where next' activity which gets children thinking about counting in 5's as well as number order.

A lesson created to teach year 1 pupils about the past and present tense and how to add -ing and -ed to change the verb from past to present tense within writing. The presentation starts the children thinking about the difference between a sentence in the past and one in the present. It then looks at how to add -ed and -ing to the root word to change its meaning. For their independent tasks the children are to write two sentences about the picture; one present and one past tense, using what they have learnt about suffixes. The powerpoint is linked to our theme which is Antarctica and penguins.

Year 1 adding s and es (Activinspire needed)

As part of our Wind in the Willows topic we looked at adding the plurals s and es. I cut up items of food and hid them around the classroom to find, saying that Ratty had lost the food from his picnic. I then told the children that Ratty wanted to have a picnic with his friends but he needed a shopping list of what to get. We received a letter from Ratty who explained the rules and watched a video on plurals and recapped. The children were to use their word mat (with pictures) to write a list of how many of each thing they needed. LA children needed to add s or es to words on their sheet. MA had words where no change to the root word was needed e.g. sandwich- 4 sandwiches. I threw in jelly for the HA and we had a chat about changing the y to an i before adding es. There was then a challenge on the board for children to complete. The children wrote their list on notepad paper.

The power point then goes through each of the pictures and explains where the houses can be found and what they are made of.
