Romeo and Juliet extract question: Eduqas GCSE
A super clear powerpoint which takes a class through the stages of tackling an extract question.
The extract is from Act 3 scene 5 when the nurse advises Juliet to marry Paris. There are plenty of opportunities for short, focused activities by the students and also a ‘moving up the bands’ illustration of how to analyse language closely. It finishes with a complete model answer.
This is suitable for the Eduqas exam board but can be adapted for other exam boards.
Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde Extract Question on Dr Lanyon: Edexcel GCSE
A super clear powerpoint (20 slides) which takes a class through the stages of tackling an extract question.
The extract is from chapter 9 and the question is based on the character of Dr Lanyon. There are opportunities for short, focused activities by the students and also a ‘moving up the levels’ illustration of how to analyse language and structure closely. It finishes with a complete model answer at grade 9 standard.
This is written for the Edexcel exam board but can easily be adapted for other exam boards.

Eduqas Unseen Poetry GCSE
A really clear 30 slide powerpoint that takes students step-by-step through the unseen poetry questions of the Eduqas exam board. It uses two lovely, accessible poems that deal with ideas of grief and death.
The first half of the powerpoint tackles the single poem using ‘Do Not Stand by My Grave and Weep’ by Mary Elizabeth Frye and includes a sample top mark answer.
The second half then helps students develop the skills to compare the poems, using ‘Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night’ by Dylan Thomas. Again, there is a sample top mark answer.
I have used this powerpoint many times with my students and it works really well.
With a little adaptation (just cutting down the sample comparison answer), it can easily be used for the AQA unseen poetry question.

Edexcel IGCSE Language Paper 1: 127 Hours Practice Reading Paper
This resource is a question paper covering the reading section of English Language Paper 1 plus a 21 slide powerpoint that takes students through answering the five questions.
Timings, examiner tips, sample answers or indicative content are all included in the clear, colourful powerpoint.
The unseen text is about surfing in Cornwall and there is an optional short writing starter at the beginning of the powerpoint that links into the theme of sports. There is enough here to cover 1-2 lessons, depending on how much writing you need your students to complete.
AQA Poetry Anthology: full revision lesson on theme of identity with lots of guided writing
A super clear, colourful 42 slide powerpoint that covers a comparison of ‘Checking Out Me History’ with ‘Tissue’.
There are plenty of opportunities for students to work individually, in pairs or small groups, depending on the class dynamics. There are sample answers for all tasks and engaging activities which help students improve their skills. There is a model answer at the end.
There are also two planning exercises where the students use the same points for ‘Checking Out Me History’ to compare to ‘Remains’. Students find this very useful.

Bundle
An Inspector Calls: thorough revision lessons for the characters
This is a bundle of 6 powerpoints which thoroughly cover the characters in ‘An Inspector Calls.’
There is one powerpoint for each character. They are all super clear and colourful, each one consisting of at least 40 slides that guides the class through the characters from the start to the end of the play.
There are lots of activities for the students which can be completed as a class, in groups/ pairs or individually. There are answers on separate slides to all questions/activities.
Use of short key quotations allow plenty of opportunities for students to closely analyse language.
Additionally, there are also some ideas for top-level context and exploring the text in different ways which helps students reach the highest grades.
Each lesson finishes with two essay questions so teachers can choose the one they need to teach according to their exam board.
One is an essay question which follows the format of AQA and Edexcel. There is a full top level answer as well for students to read.
One is with an extract-based exam paper suitable for Eduqas students. This includes detailed slides showing how to annotate, how to plan and, really usefully, an example of a top level answer.
So in total, there are 6 lessons and 6 sample essays. Depending on how much you want students to write, these 6 powerpoints will take 6-12 hours in the classroom
