Animals help us in amazing ways - what makes them heroes?
Meet some of the animals helping humans every day and explore the responsibilities we have towards animals when we use them for our benefit.

Activity objectives:
To begin to understand the different roles that animals have in our lives past and present
To explore whether an animal’s needs are being met when animals are used for human benefit
To recognise the ways animals and humans can work together, and appreciate how amazing animals can be

How can we improve the lives of farm animals?
Watch a stimulating animation before debating issues around animal welfare in food production. Children will begin to recognise how we can meet the needs of farm animals by putting themselves in the shoes of an RSPCA Assured farm assessor.

Compassionate Class - Robot Dog (pets)
Discovery Activity 1 - Robot Dog (pets)
Pets give us so much, but what are our responsibilities to keep them happy and healthy? Learn about the needs of animals by comparing the difference between a robot dog and a real dog.
Watch a film about a robot dog and compare its needs to a real dog. The resources encourage children to debate the issues of pet ownership and our responsibilities towards them.

Pupils will design packaging for eggs from different production methods.
In this lesson, pupils will design a logo/packaging for eggs that have been produced in an egg production system of their choice. Their logo will explain the production system in which the eggs have been produced and provide consumers with the information they need to make an informed decision about which eggs to buy.

In this lesson pupils will learn what a farmer needs to do to meet the needs of farm animals. It is based on the popular story Farmer Duck written by Martin Waddell. Pupils act out a study based on what would happen on Farmer Duck's day off - the farmer needs to do everything to ensure that the farm animals are happy and healthy. To prepare for this lesson, pupils could make their own farm animal masks.
