Chinese New Year Assembly 2021 - Year of the OX!

(6)
Chinese New Year will be celebrated on Friday 12th February 2021 Attached is a fully updated Chinese New Year whole school assembly. I used something similar during an OFSTED inspection and the inspectors made a special mention about how interactive, inclusive and enjoyable it was … the school went on to achieve an ‘OUTSTANDING’ report. Duration of assembly: 15 minutes (approx.) Included in your purchase is a 24-slide PowerPoint to display and refer to whilst delivering your assembly. The assembly begins by wishing the children ‘Happy New Year’ in Chinese … ‘Gong Hey Fat Choy!’ (on slide 2). The rest is as follows: Slide 3: Some basic facts about China (ending with the fact that China is famous for Kung Fu). Slide 4: A video of Bruce Lee performing some Kung Fu. Slide 5: If you have a child(ren) in your school who practice Kung Fu, ask them to perform a small routine in front of the school … there is also some appropriate music on this slide for the child(ren) to perform to … just click on the picture and the music will begin. Slides 6 - 9: These slides explain the Chinese Zodiac. It tells the children that it is the ‘YEAR OF THE OX’. On Slide 7, there is a link to a short Chinese New Year cartoon for the children to watch. Slides 10 - 23: This is a lovely story for you (or some children) to read aloud … it’s about a family preparing for Chinese New Year. On slide 20 there is also a link to a dragon/lion dance video (attached). Slide 24: Sing the song ‘Kung Fu Fighting’ (lyrics and music provided).

Responding to Work - Marking & Feedback

(1)
Make marking and responding to a piece of work simple! The attached ‘Responding to Work’ form is called 'Can we fix it? … YES WE CAN!' Use this form at the end of a lesson, after a test, the end of a small or large topic (just about anything). It’s easy to follow, adaptable and quick … just follow the instructions below! Please note: IT’S NOT MANAGEABLE TO COMPLETE THIS FORM AT THE END OF EVERY LESSON. JUST AIM TO COMPLETE 1 OF THESE (PER CHILD) FOR EACH OF THE CORE SUBJECTS, ONCE A MONTH! Instructions: Type in the ‘I can statements’ in the first box. These can be the ‘success criteria’ from a lesson or ‘specific’ areas within a topic (e.g. Time). I’ve attached an example form. Then, when you mark a child’s piece of work, tick the ‘I can statements’ the child has achieved. Then choose 1 ‘I can’ statement that HASN’T BEEN ACHIEVED and make this the child’s NEXT STEP (get the child to write this in the ‘next step’ box). Allow the child time to practice this next step/skill/target … this doesn’t have to be done straight away, but the sooner the better! Once the child has demonstrated they have achieved the 'NEXT STEP ‘independently’, staple (or stick) the evidence on the right hand side. That’s it!!!
