This math board game is a great way for students to practise multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 without them even realising that they’re learning. The game is ideal for 2 – 4 players and only needs the board, some counters, and some dice to play. They’ll roll the dice to progress along the board, landing on squares with differentiated multiplication and division problems that they must work out and move their counter accordingly. This pack contains 4 levels of differentiation. We love using this game for extension and filler work as well as a whole lesson activity as it’s a fun way to teach addition.
Contents:
Diff. 1: Whole numbers
Diff. 2: Larger whole numbers
Diff. 3: Includes decimals
Diff. 4: Includes decimals (more challenging)

Long jump subtraction is a fun and practical way for students to get loads of practice with subtraction using the column method while improving their measuring skills. For this outdoor math activity they will perform and measure two long jumps, either by themselves or with a partner and see the difference in distance between the jumps by using column subtraction.
For this activity students need to understand how to use the column method for subtraction before taking part in the activity.
**Teaching Method:
**
Go through the column method for subtraction with the students.
Explain that they will be going outside in partners to see how far they can jump and who can jump the furthest.
Partner 1 jumps and partner 2 measures how far they’ve jumped. They then swap over and complete the jump before using column subtraction to see the difference in the distances they’ve jumped.
This can be done multiple times for them to get lots of practice with column subtraction. This activity can be differentiated by getting students to measure to multiple decimal places.
Equipment needed: -
Tape measure / equivalent

These 10 outdoor STEM activities are perfect as a stand-alone outdoor team building activity or as a team builder at the start or end of year.
This pack contains 10 challenge cards that you can laminate and use time and time again. Each resource is easy to facilitate, with most challenges only needing a selection of natural resources. We recommend you allow at least 20 minutes for each challenge card, however depending on how you want to use them, students could spend hours on just on one challenge.
We’ve seen them used really well when each team does 1 card per week, spending around 1 hour on each challenge.
**
Recommended resources in your outdoor space:**
A variety of different sized sticks
Plants with a variety of different sized leaves (ferns etc.).
A variety of different sized stones / bricks.
Wooden benches / chairs etc.
Logs
A variety of thin / thick rope and string.

This is a great STEM team building activity that’ll get your class working together as they create their own giant marble runs following the criteria given on the task cards. This activity works best outside in groups of 4 or 5. Each group will need a set of different sized drain pipes to create their marble run. Your caretaker will often be very good at getting hold of these! If not, a letter out to parents will often bring in way more than you need.
To make the marble run you class can use a combination of propping the pipes up on things and supporting them themselves. The less things you have to prop the pipes up, the bigger the group sizes need to be. This activity work really well at the start of the year or just as a fun brain break.
