Maryann Kovalski is a much loved author of children's books. Her illustrations are favourites with all children. In this unit there are suggestions for activities across the curriculum for books: The Wheels on the Bus, Take Me Out to the Ball Game, Brenda and Edward, The Big Storm, Grandma's Secret, Pizza for Breakfast, and Alice and the Birthday Giant. There are math problems, science experiments, language arts projects, and art and craft ideas.

Story Book and Real Bears – a study unit. Expectations satisfied in this unit are clearly stated. There is a comprehensive book list with descriptions. Language activities include sequencing, creative writing, different book formats and story mapping. In Science and Technology students explore ways to keep warm and set up tests to prove their findings. They can design a burglar alarm and research different bear species. Music, Dance and Drama include poems and music. Art ideas are explored. Health and Physical Education are dealt with in various ways. The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch . A novel study unit This book provides the base for a host of activities all across the curriculum. Students will explore new vocabulary, quotation marks and sequence. They will demonstrate an understanding of pattern in a very interesting manner, and use measurement to further their understanding of this concept. There are research topics and fun experiments. The expectations are clearly stated for each area of the curriculum that is covered in this topic. There is a Reflection handout plus a Rubric to check each student’s understanding and progress.

Milk. A Thematic Unit Milk provides a basis for a myriad of learning activities encompassing the whole curriculum. This is particularly useful for Canadian teachers, but all of the aims and objectives that are satisfied in this unit are part of curriculum objectives in UK, Australia, and USA. The expectations are clearly stated for each subject. There is a comprehensive book list. There are experiments, fun activities, mathematical problems, activities involving language arts, suggestions for drama, art and music.

This unit has activities dealing with number problems, weighing and measuring, language arts, art and crafts, and science. There are details of hatching eggs in a classroom incubator and how to look after the ducklings in the weeks after hatching. This unit may be used any time of the year, but Spring time is ideal for hatching. Handouts are included. A rubric is included to track the progress of each student.

Pumpkins. A Thematic unit. The Fall season is an ideal time to introduce the students to pumpkins. Children equate pumpkins with Hallowe'en and Jack o' Lanterns, and are naturally enthusiastic about this big orange fruit. This thematic unit covers all areas of the curriculum with many activity suggestions and a list of suggested books. There are observations to be made and experiments to be conducted – along with mathematical problems and language arts activities. You will find handouts ready to duplicate and distribute. There is also a recipe for pumpkin cookies!

Using this delightful story students will compare traditional stories with modern fiction, learn about beans and take part in a variety of activities that involve measuring and experimenting. Young children often find the passing of time, and the reading of time very difficult concepts. In this unit time is dealt with using the seasons, the months, the weeks and days, and, finally, hours and minutes. The students are encouraged to play games and take part in activities. This ELA unit features one of Kevin Henke's delightful mouse characters named Chrysanthemum. The objectives are clearly defined. Students will discuss bullying and teasing and how to be kind to others. There are activities for students to explore their names. Handouts are provided.

Wemberly Worried is one of Kevin Henke's delightful mouse books. Using this book as a base students will discuss the worries that they might have, and use puppets to tell their stories. They will explore unfamiliar words and character characteristics. Handouts are provided.

A unique novel study unit featuring The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary. There are 13 chapters and a culminating activities page. Each chapter (suggest one chapter per day) has objectives clearly stated, an input session, and activities dealing with each of the objectives.

This is a comprehensive study of Phoebe Gilman, beloved author and illustrator of childrens' books. The Objectives and Standards are clearly stated at the beginning of the unit. The activities that are described for each book cover the whole curriculum. Each story has an explanation of the author's inspiration for it, and things to look for as you share the book. Phoebe Gilman is famous for her hidden surprises in each of her creations. Young children often find fractions very difficult so why not make use of a favourite food -PIZZA- to stimulate interest and understanding of patterns, fractions and creativity.

Children love to play with colours and experiment . Art can be used as a stepping stone to all areas of the curriculum. Use the ideas in this unit to inspire your students.

What can you do with buttons? They can be used to teach a plethora of skills to prepare students for reading, number work, small and large muscle activities. In this unit there are many ideas for using buttons and book suggestions. Enjoy the many activities using this inexpensive resource.

Gather together all the boxes you can find and use them as a stepping stone for prerequisite skills that students need for language, reading and number work. Young students will love the activities dealing with tools and musical instruments. They will be able to make an alligator or build sculptures and towers – honing important skills at the same time.
