Maths Problem Solving Find the Mystery Number Challenge Years 3/4/5

This is a problem solving lesson with 11 challenges which get harder as the numbers progress. Children have one challenge at a time, which is sheet with a hundred square on and several clues, mostly relating to multiples, odd, evens, greater than and less than. They have to work out the mystery number. How many can they do in a given time? When I did this lesson the children really enjoyed it. They can cross off numbers on the h/sq as they read the clues.

The children have a price list with the cost of savoury and sweet food, party bag items and games. They can choose which products to buy and put them into tables and calculate the cost. It could be made harder or easier by changing the prices. They should enjoy this as every child loves a party! May take more than 1 lesson. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

KS2 Football lesson 5 activities/5 stations

If you are not a PE specialist this is a good lesson as it could be repeated several times and it teaches some of the key skills in football. Follow the lesson plan but it is very simple. After the warm up split the class into 5 groups. Laminate the cards and put them at five different places as there are five different activities. You might want to pick children to demonstrate each activity first, especially if they are younger. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

When you get the homework back choose the ones that are clear and make sense to photocopy for their next homework. They were actually enthusiastic about this homework! Please leave feedback.

Time table bingo simple and harder + answers KS2

Read the very simple instructions. This will help the children to learn key times tables like 7x8, 7x7, 9x6 etc. There is an easier and harder game. The harder one includes some negative numbers to times. This is easy to use because all the children have the same bingo card. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

Use the Smart board to take you through explaining the four games. Use the web link to download the free games: Pig, Boxes, Thirty up and Four Star. The idea is that they work strategically and use their knowledge to win! It should be a fun lesson. They can work with different partners. There is a plenary/reflection sheet at the end that can be stuck in their books.PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

Photocopy and cut up the 18 questions on to card and place on each table. The children will need to know about compass points including NW, NE etc. This lesson helps them to understand quarter turns, half turns and three-quarter turns, compass points and anti-clockwise and clockwise. Practise with the children and see if they can follow instructions themselves, getting them to e.g. face North, turn a quarter turn anti-clockwise. The Smart board introduces the lesson and there is a quiz. The children can mark their work at the end.PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

All children can have the same card. Words include right/left/clockwise/anti-clockwise/N/E/S/W etc with a little arrow or symbol next to each. Highlight or circle 4/5 words. Teacher mimes the word and children put their hand up to guess which word it is. If they have it tick or put a counter on it. Winner is first to get all 4/5 and stand up and shout BINGO!. Sticker for winner! Ideal starter/ plenary game. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

This is for high level 2 and level 3 and is designed to revise lots of key position and direction vocabulary. There is a Smartboard to take you through the lesson. The children will need computers to go on for the main lesson. You will need to put the word doc with the game links on, on to your school network for the children to click on. The plenary is a simple vocabulary bingo game. PLEAS LEAVE FEEDBACK!

SB lesson 3 -digit subtraction number line

This lesson teaches children that subtraction means difference between and gets them to work out 3-digit subtraction on a number line. After working through some examples there is two levels of work which the children can do. I usually let them pick which difficulty they want to start on. The plenary is marking their own work, the answers are on the SB. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

SB lesson subtraction finding the difference

This is a lesson which introduces children to working out subtraction by finding the difference between the two 2-digit numbers numbers by using a number line. Follow the lesson and then on the SB there are 8 sums, 1 star and 8 sums, 2 star for them can choose from. I let them choose which level to start on. If they finish ask them to do the other sums. They must use a number line each time. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! I have attached a blank mult square for the starter. Plenary is marking their work-answers on the SB.

KS2 Division + Remainders Challenge, 5 stages + SB

(5)
This is very motivational and fun but does assume children will have already got a good understanding of division with remainders! Follow the Smart board to understand what to do. The children try to answer the 10 division with remainders questions on each card as quickly as possible and then self mark before moving on to the next stage. Only let them have one stage at a time. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!The questions get harder but it is possible for some to complete all 5 stages in a lesson!
