Paper Bag Gingerbread House A Christmas craft for everyone in your classroom. Created with Christmas and non-Christmas themed houses. In my classroom I have a least 6 different religious beliefs. With a few adaptions, everyone can create and build the Gingerbread house of their dreams. I have used this simple craft in my room for years. Every year we make wonderful hand-printed Christmas ornaments. We have our Kindergartens make these adorable Gingerbread Paper Bag Houses to “wrap” their ornaments to take home. This Christmas wrapping paper is so much easier than having little hands trying to wrap-up their gifts. On the back of each roof is a “To and From” tag. This makes my life so much easier! These bags look very cute as a Gingerbread House Village display stuffed with paper. The kids love coloring all the bits and pieces and then sticking them on to create their own unique House. I have created very easy houses…trim, color and glue. For the more complicated house, we start with the “basic” house…color, cut and glue on the bits. Then, for the kids who excel in fine motor, they just love coloring, cutting and adding all the bits and pieces to their projects, including the sides and the back of the house. Make this project as simple or complex as needed. I love adding the pieces to cutting trays, in my Montessori classroom for cutting exercises. Included: • Printed craft templates • Picture how to page • Mix & Match Gingerbread House parts • Step by step instructions :: Gingerbread House :: Gingerbread House Craft :: Paper Bag Craft :: Gingerbread :: Christmas Craft :: Winter Craft :: Christmas Activity :: Gingerbread craft :: Gingerbread activity :: Christmas Gingerbread House ::

Diwali :: Deepawali :: The Festival Of Lights A creative way to decorate your classroom for Diwali, the festival of lights. Your kiddos will love creating and putting on their own personal touches on these beautiful Diwali Lanterns. These units are designed in a Mix & Match format. You are able to pick the pieces that you want, depending on the needs and the abilities of your students. There are so many different possibilities. Over the centuries, Diwali has become a national festival that is enjoyed by most Indians regardless of faith: Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, and Sikhs. Diwali, or Deepawali, is India's biggest and most important holiday of the year. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that are lit outside homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. This festival is as important to Hindus as the Christmas holiday is to Christians Diwali is an official holiday in Fiji, Guyana, India, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and recently Sindh Province in Pakistan.

Christmas Around the World Create either a cute little Danish Elf or Santa with this unique crafting idea from Denmark. This is a Danish Elf Craft that I use to make with my Grandmother at Christmas. Bring a little Scandinavian Christmas Traditions into your classroom. As a child, we would hang these Elf’s from our Christmas tree, the rafters in the barn, sit the them on a shelf or on tops of bottles. This continues to be a Christmas tradition in my house…my kids love making them! These Elf crafts are great for developing fine motor skills such as: folding, coloring, painting, gluing, cutting, listening and following directions. Honor the Memory. Never Forget. A wonderful Peace Project to honor Remembrance Day, Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, Anzac Day and Martin Luther King. Four lantern designs are included: Peace, Love, Hope and the symbol of Peace. These units are created in a Mix and Match format. You are able to pick the pieces that you want depending on the needs and the abilities of your students. There are so many different possibilities. This unit can be approached in several ways. Either as a quick Peace project that will take about 90 minutes to complete. Or as long, in-depth project that will take upwards of a week to complete. In my classroom, creating the basic lantern will take my kiddos about 90 minutes (coloring and assembly). Adding on each Peace Symbol will take an additional 45 to 60 minute block of time. I normally read a Peace storybook for my Kiddos. Then we create one Symbol for each Peace related book, writing and drawing one element that is important. Use this Peace project as the center piece for your Remembrance, Veterans, Anzac or Memorial Day units In Elementary grades, keep this project simple. Colour or paint the lanterns. On the back of the flower embellishments have the kids write a sentence about what Peace Is. I love reading Todd Parr's book...Peace Is. In Intermediate Grades, teach the kids the art of Zen Tangles. Have them create beautiful patterns and tangles. On the back of the flowers, get the kids to research the different wars...record the name of the war and the death toll. I always find it shocking the number of people who have died to keep us safe. We shall never forget... In High School, especially in Grade 11 Socials, get the kids to research one of the wars or peace keeping missions. Either have them draw on or behind the words images of peace/war. Use the flowers or their own symbols of peace to add notes about their research. .
