This 9 page Christmas unit has activities and links across all KLAs so that you need not spend hours searching the net for fun and engaging tasks. Includes both English and US spelling on some printables so that they can be used universally. Some links to free resources are included in this resource so there is plenty of exploring to be done.
You can use these activities as brain breaks, introductory tasks, time fillers… keep them on your USB for a quick and easy access.
SPELLING TERM 1 GRADE 1
This makes a great addition to your primary spelling resources. I have created a set of spelling lists for each of the grades. This pack contains a set of activities for each spelling list.
• Instructions included in each of the sets of word lists
• On each page there is a new set of list words for you to practice (see the word list below)
• Firstly read each word in the word list
• Then copy and write each word 3 times
• Lastly, each letter has a value. Work out how much each word is worth using the table provided.
Use this resource for…
The digraphs ‘ai’ and ‘oi’ are hardly ever used at the end of English words.
The digraphs ‘ay’ and ‘ oy’ are used for those sounds at the end of words and at the end of syllables.
The sound /oa/ spelt with the vowel digraphs ‘oa’ ‘ow’ and ‘oe’ (‘oa’ is very rare at the end of a word.
The sound /ee/ spelt ‘e’ with the digraph ‘ee’.
The vowel digraph ‘ea’.
The vowel digraph ‘ie’ making the /igh/ and /ee/ sounds.
The sounds /f/ and /s/, spelt ‘ff’ and ‘ss’.

Year 5 Unit
The underwater theme is continued throughout this booklet, and the book chosen is "Turtle Bay"by Saviour Pirotta, illustrated by Nilesh Mistry. It is a based on a true story set in Japan, of a man who would spend his days at a certain time of the year, sweeping the beach. Taro, the young child in the story is fascinated by this, and in time he meets the beautiful turtles when they come onto the beach to lay their eggs. There are some fabulous links to websites in the thematic section of the booklet to support doing a mini unit of work on sea turtles. They are a fascinating animal, that is under pressure from human activity in the oceans. I am thrilled to be able to bring you some free resources from GoTeachThis and Ripper Reading Resources. The Island, by John Heffernan is a wonderful story about a blind boy who sees the beauty of the island he lives on, while the people around him cannot see it. A fantastic story with a link to a narration by the author. Some great links to accelerated literacy activities, and the theme of this booklet investigates our oceans and the threats to our marine life. Lots of links across all KLA's with a fully interactive timetable which links to my pinterest board. Since first compiling this resource in 2010, the classroom of the 21st Century has changed rapidly. The purpose of persuasive writing is to convince readers to share your opinion or take a particular action.
To try and make your readers agree with your opinion, you build an argument based on the logical appeals of reason and evidence. You may also add emotional appeals to persuade your readers and support claims. An emotional appeal tries to use a reader’s fears, hopes, wishes, or sense of fairness to sway their opinion.
In order for students to become effective persuasive writers, it’s important they investigate how purpose will influence the persuasive strategies they use in their writing. Start by reviewing the different purposes of persuasive writing as a class. Analyze persuasive texts, or other forms of media, and then identify the purpose for the text.
