About Alec Hunter Academy
Alec Hunter Academy is a co-educational secondary school based in Braintree, Essex, for students aged 11-16. It is sponsored by the Saffron Academy Trust.
Values and vision
Alec Hunter Academy’s ethos is founded on a desire to nurture the strengths of each individual in an atmosphere of mutual respect. At the beginning of each academic year, all students and parents are invited to a target-setting evening. This ensures students have clear objectives for the year ahead, which they contribute towards defining.
There is a full programme of sports, music and specialist-interest clubs after school hours, catering for all tastes. High-quality music and drama productions have become a locally recognised feature of the school. Students can learn to play a wide range of musical instruments.
Through the school’s links with the nearby Saffron Hall, a new concert venue with a growing reputation, internationally acclaimed artists have visited to work with students – the school anticipates that this partnership will continue.
“The Academy Trust provides strong and effective support to the academy. As a result of this the leaders within the academy have been able to recruit more effective teachers and to provide training that is focused on staff needs thus bringing about the recent improvements in teaching. Governance is strong. The governors know the strengths and weakness of the academy and monitoring procedures are robust. The academy provides a safe and caring environment for the students. Teaching in mathematics has improved and is consistently strong.”
