About George Green's School
George Green’s is an exciting, dynamic but challenging school in the inner city. It is situated on the most southern tip of Tower Hamlets and there is an excellent view of the Royal Naval College across the river in Greenwich. The Greenwich Foot Tunnel is at the back of the school and Island Gardens DLR station is directly opposite the school. The school is very popular and oversubscribed. There is a large and expanding Sixth Form. We are authorise to deliver the IB Diploma and took on our first cohort from September 2008.
The school is at the forefront of educational developments and innovations. As a full service extended school we are lucky to have an on-site social worker and Safer Schools Partnership Police Officer, a health professional and family therapist to name but a few. In addition, many other voluntary and statutory organisations work with us to provide support to vulnerable pupils and their families. We are a community school in every sense of the word and do our very best to give pupils and their families all the support they need. There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities and out of school learning opportunities.
Staff training and development are excellent and we aim to set teachers up to succeed and give them all the support they need to be effective in the classroom. The staff work collaboratively and in partnership to provide the best possible quality education for our young people. Teachers are well supported by an exceptional team of support staff and professionals who provide individual support for our youngsters. We are part of a small action zone and work very closely with our local primary feeder schools.
The leadership team are visible, approachable and proactive. They provide excellent strategic leadership as well as day-to-day support for staff and pupils. Governors are committed and active and play a large part in setting the direction for the school. They work in full partnership with the Senior Leadership Team and other staff. Similarly, we have a very strong middle leadership team who work together and share good practice.
Tower Hamlets is an excellent authority to work in with a commitment to inclusion and a track record of raising achievement for all its young people.
The ethos at George Green’s School is supportive and friendly. However, there is also a sense of urgency about raising achievement within a framework of inclusion and equal opportunities for all. We want to employ the very best teachers and support staff. Our pupils deserve nothing less.
