About Guilsborough Academy

Welcome to Guilsborough Academy

At Guilsborough we believe that learning should be enjoyable and challenging. This belief, combined with the excellent teaching skills and commitment of our staff and the enthusiasm and hard work of our students, lies at the heart of our success.

We are passionately committed to the achievement of every individual student and to providing high standards of teaching and learning. Our reputation with the local and wider community rests on consistently providing quality education for students of all abilities. Our students' excellent academic achievements can be seen in the national league tables. We are proud of the examination results we achieve, which demonstrate that we are consistently one of the highest achieving schools in the county. In 2014-15 our overall results are- 76% 5+A*-C grades and 68% 5+A*-C including English and Mathematics.   These results are above national results on both measures. The A level results this year were outstanding with 29% A*/A grades, 57% A*-B and 88% A*-C.  Every year our most able students achieve very highly and we encourage and support students to aim for top universities; whilst also providing strong support for alternative routes to higher qualifications post 18, supported by our innovative Career Academy programme. We also hold the prestigious ' Career Mark' Gold Award.

We are committed to a comprehensive intake and accept students of all abilities and strive to meet their needs. As student numbers in the rural villages decline we have increasing applications and appeals from other areas and are oversubscribed every year. We are an inclusive school community with students from a wide variety of different social and cultural backgrounds, as well as students with special educational needs. We aim to challenge all our pupils to reach their full potential and often celebrate their successes. However we also seek to ensure that those students who have special learning needs are provided with full support, to succeed at these challenges.

We nurture individual strengths within our students and encourage them to explore a wide variety of interests within and beyond the school curriculum. Our aim is to develop thoughtful, kind and considerate adults, who will not only contribute to the school but also to the wider community. Students' personal development and happiness are very important to us and our extensive programme of extra-curricular activities, including excellent Music, Drama and Sports provision, supports this process. We have a series of projects and exchanges which have led us to be accredited as an International School. We expect high standards of behaviour and seek to build strong relationships between staff and students. Considerate and responsible attitudes and behaviour are fostered through a strong personal and social education programme and all students take part in community projects.  This year we are introducing a Young Leaders Programme for all Year 7 and 8 students.

We hold the prestigious ICT Mark Award. A key factor in this is our programme to enable all students in Years 7 to 9 to use their portable ICT device in school. We support this access for students who qualify for free school meals.

We have close relationships with all our family of primary schools and work hard to enhance these links in order to ensure the progression to secondary school is successful and happy for both students and parents/carers through a series of planned events and an extensive transition programme. Guilsborough is a "converter" Academy and has formed a Multi Academy Trust with our partner primary school, Naseby Church of England Academy.

We are very proud of our students and their achievements and would like you invite all prospective parents and students to visit us on our Open Evening on 14th October or attend Musical and Dramatic performances; our whole school production runs from 18th to 20th November and our Christmas Concert on 15th December. This is the best way to experience the ethos and family atmosphere of the school.
