About Marylebone Boys' School
Our History & Ethos
Marylebone Boys' School is a Free School which opened in September 2014. We now have 480 boys in Years 7-10 and we will keep growing year by year until the school is full. We will add a mixed Sixth Form from 2019 and will eventually have over 800 pupils studying at our school. We are an academically rigorous school with an emphasis on good behaviour, commitment to learning and outstanding teaching, where knowledge is valued and available to all who are prepared to work for it. Expectations are high for all pupils. Those who need extra time and support will be helped and expected to achieve their full potential. Our motto is “studio et industria”, which can be translated as “through application and hard work”.
We focus on the core of mainstream academic subjects - English, maths, science, languages, history and geography – with the aim of achieving strong results in the subjects which prepare a child for a lifetime of learning, and which are most in demand from employers and universities.
We are currently based in our second temporary site in Brondesbury Park. This is a brand new, purpose-built modular school building located between The Avenue and Christchurch Avenue with good transport links via bus, Underground and Overground.
In September 2018 we will move to our permanent site, a brand new school located in the heart of the prestigious Paddington Basin area. We will be part of a wider development by Westminster City Council, just a stone’s throw from Paddington Station with all the benefits of Crossrail as well as the existing Underground and National Rail connections.
All staff take part in a whole school CPD, which occurs twice every half term. The whole school has a focus on ‘active learning, deep thinking and enquiry’. The regular whole school training cycle allows approaches to be introduced, modelled, practised, observed and revisited. All of our teachers engage in a fortnightly coaching cycle, which ensure constant dialogue about teaching and learning. Every teacher has a coach or peer outside of their department and fortnightly personal focus, which allows them to explore and develop their teaching practice through informal dialogue, low-stake observations and tailored action points We have an open door policy and use the coaching form as a tool to observe and engage with the learning in the classroom.
All NQTS will be part of the whole school CPD and coaching programmes. In addition, they will be supported by their NQT mentors through a programme of fortnightly observations and additional twilight training sessions twice every half term.
Joining a school in its early years of development means that candidates who come on board will have the opportunity to design and develop our curriculum approach within a creative environment. You will be in prime position to develop your career as we grow, with additional year groups entering the school and the addition of a Sixth Form by 2018/2019.
