Opening in September 2013, Outwood Academy Acklam is at the heart of the Outwood Grange Academies Trust and is an exemplar of best practice for schools across the North East of England. Our ethos can be summed up in the words of Trust founder Sir Michael Wilkins: we put “students first” and we believe that “the whole point of schools is that children come first and everything we do must reflect this single goal”.
First and foremost, we are innovators, with a vertical curriculum centring on a two-year Key Stage 2 and three-year Key Stage 4, designed to personalise learning for every student. Meanwhile, fast-track opportunities and workshops offer accelerated routes to some students whilst others can benefit from additional time to master their subjects via our extended KS4. With a holistic view of education, we value vocational, practical, creative and academic excellence equally, creating an environment where every student can shine.
Our objective is to create well-rounded and successful citizens who deeply embrace British Values: respect for democracy and the rule of law, passion for individual liberty, a commitment to mutual respect, and tolerance for differing faiths and beliefs. We aim to create an environment where every student leaves with an enquiring and open mind, ready to deal with all life’s challenges and engage with a diverse, thrilling and constantly changing world.
To this end, we encourage every child to realise his or her full potential, and have made considerable academic progress, with almost two-thirds of pupils achieving a strong pass in English and Mathematics. We want you to help to take us to the next level.
