About The Academy International School

The Academy International School is a co-educational independent all-through school for students aged 2-19. It is based in Mallorca in Spain.

The school was opened in 1985 with 25 children and two teachers. Now, it has about 490 pupils. Students can continue their education up to IGCSE examination level and then move to our sixth form International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

We are the only International British School in Mallorca that offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The programme complements our curriculum from Nursery to Year 11 and provides the students with a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities.

At our Primary School we are very lucky to have much outdoor space with a school garden, orchard, paddock for our horses, tennis court, swimming pool and football pitches.

Our new secondary site is purpose built for young adults creating the optimum learning environment and providing the ideal stepping stone to university and adult life. We have collaborative learning spaces, the latest technology as tools for teaching and learning, state of the art science labs, an outdoor amphitheatre, padel tennis courts, swimming pools and extensive sports facilities.

The Academy International School has been inspected by the Cambridge University Examination Board and is a recognised examination centre. The school is also a member of the National Association of British Schools in Spain and is inspected regularly both by British inspectors and inspectors from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science.  After several years of hard work preparing for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme we are a certified IB World School.

The student body is about 50% Spanish, 20% British, 10% Scandinavian and the other 20% represent another 30 nationalities.

The teaching staff is 90% British.

Our Philosophy

The Academy has long been recognised as a centre of excellent academic achievement, where the whole school community shares the joy of learning. Academy students are encouraged, supported and challenged. They are offered a broad and balanced curriculum, delivered by motivated and creative teachers, to ensure that learning is effective and promotes a lifelong passion for education. We use positive reinforcement to keep children motivated and we do a lot of practical learning activities. The children are enthusiastic, enjoy taking part in all aspects of school life and mix very well between year groups.

Our Mission

Central to our mission is our philosophy to share the joy of learning inspired by high quality teaching. Our mission is to provide a holistic education encompassing academic, social and emotional aspects of learning. Our surroundings and diverse student body help promote and strengthen our mission to have maximum respect for people, ideas, and the physical and material environment.

Values and vision

The Academy International School aims to create a happy working atmosphere where each student can feel a sense of belonging. It wishes to create an atmosphere where every individual is considered a very important part of the school. Teachers at the school are expected to look for the positive attributes of each child and to encourage these, whilst discovering any weaknesses and helping in every way to combat them. It is very important for the school to ensure that students are happy while at school, and therefore develop a love of learning whilst gaining confidence and security which will serve them throughout their lives.
