Part + part = whole is a simple mathematical idea that shows how two smaller amounts (the parts) can be combined to make a larger amount (the whole).

For example:
3 (part) + 2 (part) = 5 (whole)

It helps children understand addition by showing that a whole number can be broken into parts or built from parts.
