I use this lesson with a mixed ability beginner Adult ESL Class. It is a complete lesson (maybe 2) on the topic of life experiences and the use of the present perfect tense.

The Present Perfect tense is not usually included in Beginner’s courses because it is quite complex. But even at Beginner level adult students will be asked questions about their life experiences especially - How long have you…………. ?

This lesson aims to provide students with the functional language to answer (and ask) questions about their life experiences.

The lesson is based on a text that demonstrates the use of the present perfect tense to describe life experiences
It covers a lot of elementary language and language skills:

•Reading and understanding simple texts.
•Present perfect tense – focusing especially on 3rd person forms
•Question forms – How long have you…?
•Vocabulary of life experiences
•Speaking/Listening practice –asking and answering questions
•Writing simple sentences
Guided paragraph writing

Like all my resources, this lesson is designed specifically for adults. It incorporates language that adults will need to use and situations that are relevant to adult learners

This resource may include some Australian/UK language and prints to A4 paper
