This is a project that we run with year 10 pupils studying the GCSE Design and Technology Course.

This project focuses on metals and woods but also looks at ergonomics / anthropemetrics. A great way of getting pupils to think about how the 2 topics combine.

We use 3mm Steel to create the basic shape for the bottle opener and pupils scribe the template onto the steel using engineers blue.

Pupils then explore some designs for the handle and cut the steel to the same shape as the wooden handle. We give pupils 2 small rectangluar pieces of Oak or Teak to use.

We then use Chicago screws to assemble the bottle opener together. Pupils enjoy opening a bottle of coke or J20 when they are complete to test of their products work.
