I am Head of Drama at a preparatory school in London UK, planning my Year Three nativity play to be performed at our local church this Christmas. I wrote this short nativity play, after struggling to find such a fun, child-friendly script myself. It tells The Christmas Story in language that children and adults alike can relate to, with humour to engage the audience of all ages. The cast list suits a year group of 36 children aged between five-eight years of age, but can be adapted for a cast of 27 or less children. I am an award-winning writer myself, so plenty of opportunity for children to have fun with this!
Here is a sample for you:
Mary: I’m not sure about all these animals…
Joseph: You’ll be fine, dear. They’ll bring us luck for the birth!
Inn keeper [pointing at the sheep to stand by Mary]: Take good care of Nasreen, my pet sheep!
Mary: Who has a sheep for a pet?!
