This informative, engaging and original assembly aids children in understanding what down syndrome is and how to help make their school a happy and inclusive place for everyone. This is achieved through helping children to:

-Understand what down syndrome is and how it can affect people in different ways;
-Consider how people with down syndrome may feel in certain situations and thinking of ways in which they can be helped and supported;
-Reflect on the achievements of successful people born with down syndrome;
-Understand how they should respond in different scenarios to help those with down syndrome or other neurodivergence.

This assembly is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people.

It includes links to an extremely fitting and informative video (hyperlinked into the slides). It shows someone with autism who debunks common myths about people with down syndrome.

The assembly can feasibly be used with students of all ages, but was originally created for primary school children. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker (in the ‘notes’ of each slide). Hope that you find this useful!
