This set of resources gives you everything you need to teach students how to analyse writers’ use of structure for the English Language GCSE.

It is aimed specifically at AQA students, highlighting the requirements of their Mark Scheme by focusing on ‘whole-text’ structure. However, it will also be extremely helpful in teaching non-AQA students the basics of structure.
This group of resources has been several years in the making and I feel confident that it will become an essential part of your English Language exam preparation.

Pacing obviously depends on your class, but I would estimate that there is at least eight hours of work included here.

The contents are as follows:

  1. Four PDF presentations, ranging from 34 to 42 slides. Each presentation examines one extract in depth, showing students exactly how to write a comprehensive response to a Structure Analysis question. They include a focus on either four or five structural features, with a model answer paragraph on each aspect. They also feature an in-depth examination of the AQA Mark Scheme for the Structure Analysis questions, showing students exactly how to maximise their marks.

  2. Student Extract Booklets – these two booklets are differentiated: Booklet 2 is for less able students and contains hints as to what structural features are used in each extract. Booklet 1 is for more able students and features the extract without any helpful hints.

  3. Sample Answer Booklet – this contains the full completed sample answer for each extract. It is very useful for asking students to identify the various aspects of the answer.

  4. Structural Techniques Grid – this allows students to record information and examples of the various structural features discussed in the four extracts. It is ideal for homework or revision.

I hope these resources are helpful for you and instructive for your students – as always, I’d be delighted to hear any feedback you may have.

I will be adding lots more English Language revision resources to my shop so please check back regularly!
