French: Let's talk about generations

This is the essential resource for talking about generations in French in FLE courses. It is composed of 3 main sequences :

• The evolution of generations ;
• The benefit of intergenerational relationships ;
• The self-sufficiency of adults and children.

The evolution of generations.

This sequence starts with a discussion paper that introduces Generation Z and others. It explains what is special about each generation and how companies need to adapt.

Following this document, several activities will be done, such as:

• Oral productions for learners to express their prejudices and generations;

• A directed oral production to compare your generation in specific areas;

• Comment on a poster: “the clichés” to try to guess which generation said which sentence and justify it.

Intergenerational relations.

This sequence starts with an oral comprehension. It deals with the fashion for crèches in EHPADs and all the benefits that this brings to the two generations that live together.

This will be followed by several oral activities to discuss the usefulness of this initiative.

Finally, this sequence ends with a written comprehension in table form. It features several people from different generations looking for an activity that suits them all.

Generational autonomy.

The sequence starts with the poster of the film “Tanguy” which gave its name to a whole generation of young people who find it difficult to leave their parents’ home.

Several original activities, including a “boomerang” oral production, will help to make the learners talk. They will react to the link between autonomy and generation.
